Emma and I were thrilled to be asked by Helen & Tom to be their photographers for their wedding soon after getting engaged. We have done newborn sessions for both of their children and Emma actually has known Helen since attending nursery and primary school together! So for her especially to be asked to be there on their special day was wonderful.
The day began with myself heading straight to Sutton Coldfield where Helen was at her childhood home with parents getting ready along with brother, sister in law and her niece as bridesmaids and of course her little ones Daniel & Michael who were exceptionally excited!!. I was told hair and make-up stylists were arriving very early so it was an earlier start than normal but gave me plenty of time to have a relaxed morning, capturing all the morning giggles and nerves! It was also nice to see Helens childhood bedroom which had had a little facelift by her lovely brother! He'd even made her a dressing room sign for the door..and spread flowers around... how cute and thoughtful!
Emma headed over to The Fairlawns to meet with Tom and his family where they were all getting ready. Tom was exceptionally nervous and Emma said she did her best to settle his nerves! I don't think she had seen a more nervous groom to be! hehe!
The Ceremony was held at St lukes church in Kingstanding which is a wonderfully modern church with lots of light..which is always a bonus for us photographers!! Father Barry was great in letting us know that we were welcome to move about at the front of the church to get the best possible shots.. Normally we get sternly told to stay still...be quiet and if possible not to actually breathe!
After a lovely service and some confetti throwing the newlyweds headed over to The Fairlawns Hotel and Spa. Guests were greeted to a live singer and guitarist, canapés and fizz and Emma and I mingled with guests capturing the moments..stealing the odd canapé or two ;) (its a calorie burning day this photography malarky!) The tables were adorned with pumpkins, wonderful rustic autumnal flowers and decorations and the cake toppers were amazing!
We anxiously watched the weather as getting late in October we were beginning to lose light and also we could sense a little bit of rain was on its way!! We managed to get NEARLY all the group shots done before the heavens opened!.. and trying to get guests to get a little rained on was proving very hard... thankfully they were all a little covered by the large overhanging trees.....apart from...erm... me.... I didn't have no cover *sulky face*! hehe I even think Emma abandoned me at this point too and found shelter!
Thankfully it was a passing cloud but it had delayed us that much that the wedding breakfast was about ready to be served and we were yet to get some lovely couple shots of Helen & Tom in the grounds of The Fairlawns! eeeek. Sensing the organisers were in bit of a panic of the prospect of a delayed service Emma and I stole the couple for literally the shortest possible couple shoot we have ever done! talk about a time limit! hehe 5 mins later we had managed to grab some lovely romantic shots of Helen & Tom...Tom not being a huge fan of having his picture taken Im sure was thrilled with this! hehe!
Now... this is where things differ from our usual wedding day.. Sitting in a cold bar with a cheese sarnie we were not..... we were this time sat at one of the decorated tables with everyone else being served a 4 course dinner.. wow! It was a beautiful meal and hugely appreciated!
Speeches commenced after the meal with the bride actually taking to the mic too! Along with words from both fathers and of course the groom. Emma and I even got a surprise prezzy in the speeches...now that never happens! hehe
Later into the evening we saw Helen throw her bouquet...or did we!...we since found out this was a replica made especially for the throwing! How ingenious! So all those brides out there that want to 'throw the bouquet' but don't want to ruin it... fab idea for you there to steal!! Its a good job she did to be honest as those feisty ladies pulled it to pieces in the scuffle! hahaha! Helen & Tom went on to lead the first dance and also a dance with her father which was lovely to see as not many brides carry on this tradition.
We love autumn weddings and this was an exceptionally wonderful wedding, with wonderful people. Thankyou so much again Helen & Tom for inviting us!.. taking care of us and being such a great couple. Below are a selection of images from the day. enjoy! xx
