Jodi & Becki contacted us waaaay back in early 2017 to see if we were available to shoot their wedding at the stunning Donington Park Farmhouse. I think it was one of our first enquiries then for 2019 which seemed such a long way away at the time so we managed to squeeze them in the Toast diary! Ha!
We met up a few weeks before the wedding to go over the finer details which is something we always like to do nearer the date of the wedding with our couples. We met up at the venue and had a peak in the barn and just wow. Emma and I are big Game of Thrones fans and the minute we saw the barn we thought we had walked into Winterfell and Jon snow was about the walk in (sorry this makes no sense if youre not a fan haha!) We just knew we had to incorporate this stunning barn and its decor into a stunning image for Jodi & Becki. They had specified that they would really like a sillouette shot as seen on our instagram so we had a few ideas up our sleeve when we saw the barn.
Emma and I arrived around an hour before the ceremony to document guests arriving and all the beautiful decorations Jodi & Becki had used to dress the barn. It was stunning. The barn ooozes ambience and warmth with all its twinkly lights and wooden features. Also known as ‘The Threshing Barn’ it comes with alot of interesting history and you could see Jodi & Becki had really tried to incorporate this in their decor too. With bunches of Barley, wooden logs and glass jars laden with twinkly lights the barn looked wonderful.
The ceremony was beautiful with each bride writing their own vows and a touching speech from their best man.
The ladies walked out as Mrs & Mrs to glorious sunshine outside. After guests congratulated the newly weds we got straight into group shots, children were having fun with all the garden games and guests were treated to lovely music from band 'Plain Folk'.
We were treated to some heartfelt and hilarious speeches on the courtyard under blue skies.. including a lovely speech by Jodi to her new wife Becki.
As Jodie and Becki had a ceremony later in the day it wasnt going to be long before evening guests arrived so we began planning some shots of just the ladies together. We took them back into the barn for some cool shots. We really wanted to incorporate the one end of the barn with all the shields and stags head adorning the wall. We did a few silhouette shots as requested by the brides and then some more intimate ones incorporating the barns lighting.
We then headed outside to the beautiful areas surrounding Donington park farmhouse. The sun was quite harsh at this point so we headed to a shaded area to the rear of the venue. Once we had slightly softer light we moved to the fields over the road from the venue and got some gorgeous golden hour portraits before heading back just in time for their cake cut and food being served!
We thoroughly enjoyed this wedding. Emma and I had also never photographed a same sex wedding before, so it was such a lovely experience for us and we really hope it's the first of many more! We always feel privileged being asked to be a part of someones most special day. We would like to both thank Jodi & Becki for choosing us to be their photographers and wish them a long and happy marriage! <3
Here are some of our favourite images from their day..! Enjoy!
